No More Plastic Bags for Yard Waste

Prince George’s County has banned the use of plastic bags for yard waste.

image001Yard waste will no longer be picked up at curbside in the City of Bowie if it is in plastic bags. Grass, leaves, and small branches can go out in cans or in paper bags. No can should weigh more than 50 

lbs. Branches less than 3 inches in diameter and no longer than 4 feet can also be bundled and put out on Wednesdays for yard waste pickup. Larger branches (up to 24 inches in diameter and weighing less than 50 pounds) should be cut down to no more than 18-24 inches in length and left at the curb for Wednesday pickup.

Paper grocery bags are acceptable for small amounts of yard waste or large, heavy duty paper yard waste bag

s can be purchased and used for larger amounts. We’ve found them in Bowie at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Safeway, and Target. Please remember that yard waste cannot be included with your regular trash, nor can it be put in blue recycling bins or carts.

  1. This is some really good information about removing waste from your yard. It is cool that you can put them in recyclable bags. I have always wanted a live Christmas tree, but I never knew how I would get rid of it. So, it is good to know that services like this one can also get rid of big things like a Christmas tree.
